As a child, I was a fan of the cartoon show Popeye the Sailor. I vaguely remember the theme song, but have never forgotten his catch phrase, “I am what I am, and that’s all that I am.” It took me years to realize that it wasn’t just fun to say; it was something that philosophers and scholars have been sharing for years which is the power in I AM.
A simple way to explain its power is by accepting that I AM is who you are.
When we use “I am” statements in everyday living, we often say it without any significant thought and with little recognition of the power it holds. Each time you state “what you are” that is the belief that you are accepting which then creates emotions mirroring your words/thoughts.
Think about all the times that you may have said “I am tired” or “I am bored.” No doubt that you became more tired or really bored without realizing why. These statements may have just been momentary observations, but once they were stated, they were no longer fleeting thoughts. They were declarations. Now think of how you felt after saying “I am excited about…” or “I am happy that…” Before you realized it, you were even more enthusiastic or happier by emotions powered up with the power of I AM.
You do not have to be a philosopher or a cartoon character to understand that I AM is more than two little words. I AM is power. I AM is who you are…and you are amazing!
